Chesnok Garlic

Chesnok garlic originates from the Republic of Georgia in the former USSR. It is a standard Purple Stripe variety with heavy purple striping on the bulb wrappers, making it visually striking. The background color of the wrappers is more whitish, contrasting with the purple stripes.

Chesnok garlic can grow quite large under excellent conditions. The outer bulb wrappers are thin and loose, but they become thicker and tighter as you peel them away, making the cloves easy to access. The cloves are large, milky white with cranberry-colored streaks, and have tannish elongated tips. Each large bulb typically has about a dozen cloves, even the inner ones being of good size.

The cloves are fewer but larger, averaging 8 to 10 per bulb, arranged in a circular pattern. Chesnok garlic is known for its full flavor with a mellow aftertaste, making it ideal for baking and a great all-around garlic. Its flavor can vary slightly from year to year, but it is always distinctly garlicky. Chesnok is also known as the sweetest roasting garlic, with a surprisingly sweet taste when cooked.

All crops are grown chemically free in rich soil. Orders will be shipped in a flat-rate padded envelope to protect the garlic.

It is based on the assumption that each bulb contains approximately 12 cloves. While this is often true, there can be variations in the number of cloves per bulb.
